Erin’s undergraduate education is in history and botany. She later obtained her master's degree in horticulture. Her strong academic background in science has been backed with 8 years in the horticulture industry, both in university research and in the private sector.

For the past 4 years she has worked in a horticultural laboratory and has served as assistant editor to two scientific journals.
